The 2 Sides (2012): Nothing Is Like It Used To Be

Story
After having redone most of the tracks of The Two Sides, I had four left to remake - this track, "Wanna Know My Name? Later", "What Can I Do To Cure This Evil?" and "Afterlife Experiences". However, since I was very busy, I couldn't remake anyone of these. So, what to do with this track?

At first, I took the original from "The Two Sides" and sped it up. I liked the new speed, but I felt it needed something. One day, while walking, I had the idea to combine that version with its alternate take (found in "A few words"). So I did that: I put one version on top of the other, sped it up, and got this version. Not bad at all.

Concept
After having a normal life in "Wanna Know My Name? Later", our protagonist finds himself marching in protests, shouting about everything he doesn't like about the present time. He finds himself more and more alienated by the people - saying that "everything's different and horrible". With more disappointment each time, he slowly transforms into what the next songs reveal.

Lyrics

Nobody knows what I've become
Everybody thinks I'm paranoid
Who can tell me everything's gone?
Who can say something unknown?

It is now that nothing I know
Can you tell me why I want more?
More and more and more and more
I've been feeling this won't stop
(Oh, yeah, here we go)

'Cause nothing is like it used to be
Everything now is irony
'Cause nothing is like it used to be
And there's no more fantasy

Why I see that nobody knows
the complex reason why i am on
these paradoxes of the entire world
that has been changing since i was a boy

All I see is one thing I know
Everything's different and horrible
The world's not like it used to be
and everything now is irony

'Cause nothing is like it used to be
Everything now is irony
'Cause nothing is like it used to be
And there's no more fantasy

'Cause nothing is like it used to be
Everything now is irony
'Cause nothing is like it used to be
And there's no more fantasy
